Hooke's Otheometer - Another developement by our industrius director! This fascinating new model is built on the 17th century styles of instruments with a wonderful printed scale from an original commissioned hand engraving. The barometer has been sucessfully patented and is only available through us the designers and manufacturers. It measures 27 inches tall by 8 1/4 inches wide with glass front and special oil filled glass tube made by our specialist resident glass blower. As Robert Hooke commented in his diary this Otheometer moves opposite the normal mercury barometer and so falls for good weather and rises for bad weather. The weather glass 230mm x 440mm using camphor crystals suspended in a solution to foretell the weather! - no guarantee to work but often crystals will change: mostly temperature related but has a part in the history of weather forecasting. Admiral Fitzroy mentioned them in his 'Weather' book of 1863 and their origins are very old. We mix the secret recipe in our workshop and are very pleased with the mixture we have refined from old recipes, which has taken us many hours of experimenting. Ours are designed to hang indoors as a decorative conversation piece.
